Dear Members and Community,

We have a lot of pertinent information to share, so we've thrown it onto a blog post to help ease the weight on your inbox. It's a lot, but it's important to allow us to return and function safely and effectively as a community. Thank you for your patience as we walk you through some things, and please read on to make sure you are as informed about our return as possible.

We will be hosting a Town Hall this Friday, June 12th, at 4:00 PM via Zoom to answer any questions, but we urge you to read this information so that you can prepare any questions you may have.

Our Return

We are beyond excited to share that we will be reopening our doors starting this Monday, June 15th, with a limited schedule for Kearny Mesa (RU1), Carmel Valley (RU2), and La Mesa (RU3).

Note: Escondido (RU4) and all Fit4Life classes will not yet reopen for the time being while we review the state guidelines and our ability to safely hold these classes. We are preparing to get those classes back as quickly as possible. For those clients, class packages will be extended. It is important that I note right away that nothing is set in stone and things are going to be ever-evolving as we get things up and running again as quickly as we can. We will work to continuously improve our schedule and opportunities as we are able to make sure we are following the appropriate measures for everyone’s safety.

There will certainly be some changes and some adjustments to make for all of us. We will be implementing some new guidelines to keep everyone in our facilities and community as safe as possible. Each location is a different space, size, and shape. For this reason, each location will be taking additional clinic-specific measures to ensure that proper and safe protocols are in place to go along with state guidelines.

We will start with a limited capacity for each location. This means we will be implementing a pre-class sign-up process through the MindBodyOnline App. If you have not already downloaded the app, do so now and set up your account. We ask that you do this ahead of time as this will be required in order to reserve a spot in your desired class. Spots will be limited, so you will need to be proactive and sign-up for classes ahead of time. We will not be allowing classes greater than the number of spots available on the app. While we never want to turn anyone away, this must be the policy from here forward in order to maintain social distancing protocols. so please make sure to understand this before showing up for a class that you may not be able to attend due to capacity. You will have 7 days ahead of each class to reserve a spot. Next week’s classes will be available for sign-ups starting this Friday morning at 10:00 am.

IMPORTANT: If you sign up for a class and do not attend without canceling your reservation two (2) hours in advance, you will be assessed a $20 No Show Fee for reserving a spot someone else could have used. The reason for this is since class space is limited we want to open that spot for someone else that may want it. Again, you can sign-up for classes up to 7 days in advance or before class as long as there is a spot available, and this 7-day protocol will be implemented as of this Friday.

Below is information on MindBody and accessing your accounts if you have not gone through this process already.

How do clients link their accounts to their profile at FIT Societe?

Your clients can manually link their account to your business directly through their Mindbody app. To do this:

  1. Clients will need to sign into the Mindbody app using the email address and password used at the business.

  2. Select the Profile icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  3. Under the Settings gear, choose to “Resend account confirmation email” at the top.

  4. Next, you will need to check their email inbox for a verification email and click the enclosed link. After they’ve successfully verified their email they can view and use your passes. Make sure to check your SPAM if you do not receive the email directly.

  5. Under the “Search for a business” section at the bottom of the app, enter FIT Societe and Wellness Services and click the Search.

  6. Select the name of the business they’d like to link.

  7. Enter the email address and password you use for your current contact in MindBody and click on Sign in.

Capacity and Sanitation Protocols

Each location will be offering a limited attendee capacity for classes to start so we can make sure we are able to maintain guidelines. We will continue to develop and expand the program each week as we get things rolling again. Below is our starting capacity for each clinic as well as our starting schedule. Again, it is very important to note that we will be expanding class sizes and times in the near future as conditions allow. We will be following the same state guidelines at all locations with some location-specific guidelines to improve quality at each location. We have been making big modifications and changes and we are excited to share them with all of you.

Our coaches have all been trained on proper cleaning procedures and equipped with approved sanitizers and cleaners at each location. All classes will have a minimum 15-minute gap between them for coaches to complete their sanitation duties. This 15-minute window will be a strict empty gym policy, meaning no members will be allowed in the gym during that time and the next group will need to be welcomed into the gym by the coach once they have completed their cleaning procedures. We will not have extra space in the gym for foam rolling or stretching while class is going on, but we encourage you to begin stretching at your vehicle or an open and safe area outside while maintaining social distancing protocols.

Location-Specific Information and Protocols

This section provides important information and specific protocols we will be putting in place for each location, as well as some other class and training options available. You may choose to read through the information for all three locations, or you may skip ahead to the location you'll be attending.

KEARNY MESA: 10 People Maximum Per Class

For our Kearny Mesa location, we will be starting with a 10 person maximum class capacity and reviewing space over the first week to see our ability for change and growth. We have taped off 7x7 foot sections for each member to use for the duration of the class. We will be coaching all of you on how to best utilize this space and keep yourself safe during workouts with the new measures in place. Coaches will work with athletes on equipment selection and use. We want to make sure we are minimizing the risk of individuals touching equipment they are not going to use.

Please do not come in and start grabbing the equipment you want/need. This will be done through the coaches. We are also making modifications to our outdoor space. This will allow us to add more additional workout spaces. We will be adding some shade to cover our outdoor patio. Our garage doors will be open for air circulation during class on a regular basis. Each 7x7 foot space will be delegated by the coach as needed. A coach may choose to move athletes to a different workout space based on their discretion of safety and other potential factors in the workout, like pull-up bar heights and modifications needed for specific athletes.

You will not get the same exact space every class, so please be patient with your coaches as we implement and progress this new system. We will do our best to make everyone comfortable, but we ask for flexibility from all of you as well. We also ask that you enter the FIT Societe gym from the back garage doors and not through the front entrance. We are doing this to avoid excess foot traffic at the front office and through the communal areas of the building as much as possible. Please check in with your coach upon arrival and make sure it is alright to enter the building so you are not disruptive to class or interfering with social distancing policies.

CARMEL VALLEY: Capacity Varies Based on Time

We are excited to announce that we have taken some extra precautions to better improve our space. While you were gone, the old green turf was removed and replaced with a beautiful, brand new, state-of-the-art turf! We leveled and floated the concrete and installed some new rubber flooring. This new turf will allow us a better opportunity to keep it clean and sanitized. We have reorganized and removed a lot of excess equipment to create more space for our members.

Please enter through the garage side door for classes. If for any reason the door is not open, you may go through the front. We are doing this to limit traffic through communal areas. Find your coach and let them know you have arrived for class. They will assign/direct you to your spot for the duration of your workout. Coaches will also work with you on getting equipment to limit travel around the gym. Our classes will be held nearest the garage door to help with air flow. We will also be blocking a couple of parking spaces outside for those individuals that feel more comfortable being outdoors. This needs to be directly communicated to your coach so they can best organize the group into safe positions. Please keep in mind that this location does share space with physical therapy and space will be adjusted as needed to make sure everyone feels comfortable and safe.

Starting Schedule for Carmel Valley:

  • Monday: 6am (10 People Maximum)

  • Tuesday: 4:30pm (6 People Maximum)

  • Wednesday: 6am (10 People Maximum)

  • Thursday: 4:30pm (6 People Maximum)

  • Friday: -

  • Saturday: 9am (15 People Maximum)

LA MESA: Capacity Varies Based on Time

La Mesa is the biggest and newest location. We have a brand new air ventilation system and plenty of space to spread out. We will begin with a smaller class size only because our membership there is of a smaller quantity since we just recently opened. Our intention will be to grow this location and increase the numbers in class as long as safety measures and protocols can be upheld. You will enter through the regular front entrance and move directly over to the FIT Societe side of the building (left as you walk in). Please seek out your coach so they can direct you to the appropriate area.

During the renovation of the new building, we installed glass doors that can be opened for better fresh air circulation as well. We will continue to work with the physical therapy side of the company to make sure that we are staying within our parameters of space and safety for everyone. You will be assigned a space that you will remain in throughout the duration of the workout and will work with your coach on collecting equipment needed. We ask that you no longer come in and jump into a true stretch cage or grab equipment and start doing your thing. We can do all of those same mobility techniques without a cage, using an elevated surface or the rig and under the coaches' direction.

Starting Schedule for La Mesa:

  • Monday: 6am class (10 People Maximum), 5pm Weightlifting (10 People Maximum, All Levels Welcome)

  • Tuesday: 5:30pm (6 People Maximum)

  • Wednesday: 6am (10 People Maximum)

  • Thursday: 5:30pm (6 People Maximum)

  • Friday: 6am (10 People Maximum)

  • Saturday: TBD in the next 2 weeks. Please join our Kearny Mesa or Carmel Valley Saturday program for the time being (15 People Maximum)

Live Workouts: As we add classes and times, we will also be continuing our live online workouts for the foreseeable future. These Zoom sessions will continue to be live Monday through Friday at 9am. We will also leave those recordings up as we have done over the past 10 weeks for up to 48 hours on the website. We are also in the midst of creating our online On-Demand platform that will give our members access to a full library of exercises, workouts, mobility, and more. We are very excited to get this platform up in the near future.

Personal Training: We are open for personal one-on-one training! If you have a desire to get back into some specific programming or weightlifting or feel more comfortable to start working with a coach 1 on 1 this is a great place to start. Our first 4 weeks of the class program will not be “heavy” to limit the risk of injuring deconditioned athletes. Workouts will be modified appropriately by the coach for each athlete in the class. Personal training will also be shifting gears to a monthly membership-based service. 1x, 2x, and 3x a week memberships will be available. We will send out another (much shorter) email with these details soon. These are wonderful add-ons for individuals with specific goals who need or want that extra attention.

Monthly one on one membership Pricing:

  • 1x week - $300 ($75 per session)

  • 2x week - $560 ($70 per session)

  • 3x week - $780 ($65 per session)

Gym Expectations

We will be implementing our Gym Expectations at each facility that we had finalized days before the shutdown, as well as new cleaning guidelines posted around the facility for your reference. This will include things like washing your hands once you enter the building and after your session. We are asking our members to do their best to adhere to these guidelines and help us make FIT Societe as safe as possible. Our goal is not to regulate and micromanage everyone, but for our community to be what it is, a community, where we think about others when assessing risk and safety rather than simply ourselves. This needs to be a community effort in order for us to continue being the best in San Diego. We will be sending out a document that I call “The Promise.” It is what we promise to do to keep you safe, as well as a promise from you to do the things necessary to maintain our culture, community, and cleanliness of the facility.

We also know how excited everyone is to see one another, including myself and the other coaches, and your first instinct is to potentially want to hug, high five, elbow, or fist bump. Please do your absolute best to avoid any physical contact with other members. Let’s keep each other safe.

Important Policies to Be Aware of

Face Masks: Here is one of the big questions: do I have to wear a mask while I work out?

This has been a question we have been researching and speaking to as many qualified medical professionals as possible. Working out with a mask is difficult, and even more so as it gets saturated with moisture from sweat and breathing. The State recommends people wear masks at the gym when within 6 feet of one another, so we are going to follow that. Anytime you are entering our facility or moving about the facility, a mask WILL be required covering your mouth and nose. However, once you are in your designated exercise area assigned by your coach, with a 6-foot separation, and the workout is ready to begin, you will be able to take your mask off to exercise. The moment you leave your designated area, you will be required to have your mask on. You must keep your mask in your designated space with you while you exercise.

Our hope is to not have to micromanage this rule. We ask that you self-regulate and recognize being aware of when it’s appropriate and not appropriate to remove your mask. You will be reminded by a coach or staff member if they see you are not following this guideline. Please do not take this as a rude or attacking gesture. We are doing what we can to keep our facility safe and ensure that our clients and staff trust that we will uphold this policy to keep others as safe as possible. We will be using strategies to keep athletes facing different directions during the workout to limit possible exposure. Our coaches will wear masks the entire duration of classes. Our coaches will only remove or bring down their masks during a class if they go outside and are an appropriate distance away from any participating member.

They will be gloved up during their cleaning procedures as well. We will NOT provide any towels or linens. There will be no exception to this rule as these are in the state guidelines. You are encouraged to bring your own towel and water bottle (please prefill your bottle). Leave any extra items you do not need in your vehicles. Please also review the workouts online ahead of time so you as an athlete can be prepared to bring in your own items such as a jump rope, hand grips, lifting shoes, etc. We will provide those items to anyone that does not have or cannot bring them in. You may also bring in your own equipment such as a barbell, mat, or items of that nature as long as it stays within your designated area.

Showers: We still have our showers available. We ask that only people with an essential need to shower do so. If you need to go straight to work or somewhere where you need to be showered, by all means, please use it. If you do not need to take a shower and can do so at home, please shower at home.

Final Thoughts

There is a lot of rhetoric going around, and rhetoric aside, individuals are going to make decisions for themselves on whether they feel ready to return back to the gym. There is nothing we care more about than the safety of our community, and we are doing everything in our power to continue this Core Value. At the end of the day, you must make a decision for yourself and determine the risks you are willing to take. No one can eliminate all of the risks until a vaccine is created.

Dr. Fauci recently came out and said that surface-to-hand transmission is pretty low risk. I hope that as you do the calculations in your head you are not just thinking about yourselves and your freedom, but also what it means to the people around you and how that can affect the community as a whole. The best way for us to eliminate as much risk as possible is to do it together and Be a FIT SOCIETE. Be aware and responsible for yourself and the decisions you are making socially and physically before coming to the gym, and also those decisions you make inside the facility, those decisions affect us all.

Our coaches will have a daily self-protocol and self-symptom procedures before coming to work. We ask you to do the same. If you don’t feel well, please stay home. We will be flexible to no show charges for those that are ill and cannot attend class that day if they were already registered.

We as a company are also being very mindful of staying out of large gatherings and public places with the goal of reducing risk to our community. Coaches are under strict instructions to keep their supervisor updated on any travel or potential exposures so we can make the necessary decisions to protect everyone. Regardless of your opinions or what you hear, please be mindful of the expectations put in place at our facilities. They are based on the information given to us from the state and we will follow those guidelines. There is a lot to be considered, and it’s not just about you. It’s about how we all FIT together.
