Eric Duong

Eric was born in Montreal, Canada (he didn’t stay long enough to learn any French) and was raised in Connecticut and San Diego. He tried every sport he could as a kid. He attended Del Norte High School as part of its inaugural class, where he captained both the lacrosse and roller hockey teams.

After graduating, he played 2 seasons of junior hockey in Minnesota and Colorado before earning a chance to play collegiate ice hockey in Massachusetts. After a brief stint as a student-athlete, Eric hung up his skates and transferred to Northern Arizona University, graduating in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in English. During this time, he served as a science journalist with the NASA Space Grant, while also researching how to improve heart-rate monitors with NAU’s Computer Informatics Lab. More importantly, it was here that Eric wandered into a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym. Unsurprisingly that quickly led to him also discovering physical therapy. Fascinated by how the human body can be healed and strengthened using movement as medicine, he switched career paths.

Eric is currently a Student Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. He expects to graduate in 2024.

As a Performance Coach with Fit Societe, Eric is beyond excited to be surrounded by a team that shares his philosophy that the purpose of training is to prevent injury, improve confidence, and have fun. He also holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and competes in MMA matches across the country. Outside of Rehab United, he is a licensed emergency medical technician, mainly treating runners during ultra-marathon events.

You can usually find him on the gym floor at Carmel Valley either teaching classes or working 1 on 1 with clients. Please feel free to introduce yourself and ask him about anything, especially about how much he loves barefoot shoes.
